Two Obama Quotes

“Moreover, given the increasing diversity of America’s population, the dangers of sectarianism have never been greater. Whatever we once were, we are no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.”
Barack Obama

“I believe in evolution, scientific inquiry, and glocal warming; I believe in free speech, whether politically correct or politically incorrect, and I am suspicious of using government to impose anybody’s religious beliefs-including my own-on nonbelievers.”
Barack Obama

Nice…looks like he has two speech writers. I want to know whom he delivered each quote to.

  2. Hrafn, on August 31st, 2008, said:

@Eva - the first one was delivered in a Church somewhere. I forget the name. He then went on to explain that no believers can expect other people to do what they want just because its in their scriptures - but that they have to translate their beliefs into a communal language of logic and reason.

    It was quite brilliant.

Do u know about the second one?
Does he write these, cos if so, he would make a good blogger :)

I wonder if he writes these himself. Hmmm… Very brilliant though, sounds like a man who speaks straight from the heart.

He is the American hope for all modern progressive people all over the world. His impact, just having won the nomination itself is a turning point in global politics not only American. I hope that he wins.

McCain seems to have played his cards well! The dissatisfied women folk followers of Hilary are now likely to be more favorably inclined towards the Republicans with the new running mate! Wonder how Obama will react to this and whether there will be some quotable quotes from him on that subject!

I would really like Obama to win so we could all witness in what direction will USA go. His speeches and ideas are a new path, and new paths are usually hard to follow. So the next 4 years could be very interesting.

All he talks about is “change” but he will not talk about what changes he will make.

Heck, he will not even debate with McCain.

have any of you listened to the rest of his speaches? He talks in circles and never gives contrete answers. I still dont know what he stands for beyond these 2 quotes.

You realize your taxes will double right? ;)

    oops, that should be concrete

“have any of you listened to the rest of his speaches?”

Yes, I’ve listened to most (perhaps all the major) ones of both Obama and McCain.

“He talks in circles and never gives contrete answers. I still dont know what he stands for beyond these 2 quotes.”

I’m not sure how that’s possible, to be perfectly honest. If there is any doubt, you might want to take a look at the Issues section of his web site which has a ton of PDF documents and spreadsheets with budget breakdowns. If you’re looking for concrete specifics, numbers and data, that should fulfill your appetite for knowledge, I hope.

“You realize your taxes will double right? ;)”

That’s just simply incorrect. I like how you state “I still don’t know what he stands for” and then immediately follow it up with an assertion presented as a fact about what he stands for. :)

I’m not sure how I feel about this guy he speaks reason but isn’t there something vacant behind his eyes. I mean, am I the only one who sees this? I like what he says with in reason I just don’t believe him the way he says it.

    Just my two thoughts,

Another shining example of Obama’s remarkable ability to say a whole bunch of nothing in a very eloquent manner. The man takes no solid stance on anything. Pathetic.

  18. Travis Vocino, on October 8th, 2008, said:

@phil: Did you read the quotes? The solid stance is that we’re not a Christian nation like Palin and other Republicans pretend that we are. The statement is extremely clear. Perhaps you should reread.

It’s exactly this type of eloquence that has now made him US President. I’m so happy, he’s a very smart man.

It’s time for change. I’ve never been so hopeful about the future.
